The roof has been leaking for some time and a recent bad storm threatened the whole house and the collection, which is of national importance. So, the decision was made to go ahead with a complex repair programme involving the complete replacement of the roof of the whole house. To help the National Trust to fund these repairs we are holding a Tag-a-Tile event in Chineham Shopping Centre on 20th and 21st May from 10am until 4pm.
To be part of the history of The Vyne, come and write or draw on a handmade tile for a suggested donation of £5 per tile. These will be used to replace the 71,000 worn tiles on the roof. Everyone can enjoy this, from adults drawing family trees to children producing incredibly imaginative, creative images of everything from unicorns to teddy bears.
It’s great fun and you know your tile will be protecting the roof of The Vyne for hundreds of years. Just think what the builders of the future will find when they come across your tile in the year 2317!
Come along and see the repairs for yourself on our fascinating Roof Walkway which is open every day from 10am until 3.30pm. If you need more information please call 01256 883 858.
