Introduction

Thank you for visiting our web page.  We shall be starting a new season on Monday the 18th of September.  So if you have never tried bowls before, and would like to give it a go, please come along and see us.

We are a small club of about 40 members based at Old Basing Village hall.  We meet once a week on Wednesday from 3:30 p.m. until 6:00 p.m..

We find that many outdoor bowlers like to play short mat in the winter to keep in practice.  Also, short mat bowls offers an additional challenge as there is a block of wood midway down the mat.  The game definitely requires a little more skill. We also have a number of members who only short mat bowl.

Bowling Season

We do not bowl in the summer months, so if you are an outdoor bowler, it shouldn't interrupt your  bowling season. And for the rest of us it gives us ample time to enjoy the summer weather.  We start in the middle of September and bowl through to the end of May.

Activities

Most club sessions are for roll-ups.  We do not have a strict dress code for roll-ups (as you can see from the pictures), so you can come as you please.  We only ask that you wear proper bowls shoes for the sake of the mats.

We have four mats, three of them brand new and the other only a few years old.  We usually have three mats down at the evening sessions, and sometimes all mats down on the afternoon session.

We also play occasional friendly matches against other short mat bowls clubs in the Basingstoke area.  These are matches of 21 ends played in a friendly spirit, and punctuated by a break for tea and light refreshments.

We enter a team into the Basingstoke League if we can raise enough team members.  We had a team in last season, but haven't entered one for this season.  The league organised two Open competitions each season, which we do usually enters teams for.  This year we reached the final of the Fours competition, and with a bit of luck could have won it.  These competitions are normally in the Autumn and Spring months.

New Members

We are always looking for new members.  You can be of any age or ability.  You can come to any session just to "try it out" and see if you like it.  We can lend you the bowls.  We do not normally charge for the first month or until you have decided to join.

Fees

The annual joining fee is £10.00

There is a green fee of £3.00 per session you attend.  You can normally attend any session, or as many sessions, as you wish except when there is a home friendly being played.
