![]() New nesting tower... gives swifts and house martins a lifeline. A specially designed nesting tower has been installed at Blashford Lakes Nature Reserve to support struggling populations of swifts and house martins. It marks Hampshire & Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust’s first nesting tower across its estate, and provides much-needed secure nesting sites for these red-listed bird species. Swifts and house martins have experienced significant population declines in recent decades, due to habitat loss and a reduction in suitable nesting sites. The UK breeding population of swifts have declined by 66 percent between 1995 and 2022, while house martins have declined by 44 per cent. – Read More ... June 2025 |

![]() News from your local Prostate Cancer Support Group The speaker at the recent North Hampshire Prostate Cancer Support Group monthly meeting was Fiona Labrooy from Heartburn Cancer UK, a national charity based here in Basingstoke. It was founded in 2003 by Mimi McCord after her husband passed away only 9 weeks after diagnosis. Their mission is to inform and give hope to sufferers of persistent heartburn and acid reflux, Oesophageal cancer, and Barretts disease. Their aim is to give more hope for Oesophageal cancer survivors; working together to keep more people alive; and raising awareness with people that persistent heartburn can be dangerous. – Read More ...
