![]() New Committee Appointed In operation since 1979 the Probus Club of Basingstoke caters for retired men who had some management experience in the professions or business, hence the acronym Probus. Their 45th Annual General Meeting has just taken place and appointed their committee to run things on behalf of their members. ![]() Adder's-tongue among the grasses As summer unfolds, Hampshire's meadows come alive with a tapestry of flora. Among these is the elusive Adder's-tongue fern (Ophioglossum vulgatum), a plant that, despite its modest appearance, boasts a remarkable natural history. Belonging to one of the oldest lineages of ferns, the Adder's-tongue is often termed a 'living fossil.' Its name derives from the distinctive spore-bearing spike that protrudes from its singular, tongue-shaped leaf, resembling a snake's tongue.
