This month we return to Britain’s railways with a couple of presentations of historical and nostalgic interest. Firstly, on Wednesday 9th August, Richard Marks will present “British Railways in World War Two”. Richard will discuss the impact of the war on the railways of this country and show, perhaps surprisingly, how the legacy of the Victorian railway builders helped the country to win the war.
Turning to the slightly more recent past, on Wednesday 23rd August, Geoff Plumb will return with “That Was The Year That Was – 1966”. Geoff’s splendid collection of pictures will illustrate the railways and their locomotives and trains as they were 57 years ago.
Our meetings are at 7.45pm at The Wote Street Club in New Road in Basingstoke town centre, RG21 7NG, which has a licenced bar and usually conclude by 10.00pm. Do join us for these meeting, either by becoming a Society member or as a visitor (at a cost of just £5). Membership details are on our website at www.bdrs70d.com or call the Secretary on 07837 320790.
