The railways of Turkey were something of a paradise for steam lovers between 1973 and 1983. On Wednesday 8th November Peter Robins will illustrate this with more than 20 classes of locomotive on a variety of operations including suburban services around Izmir in the west, heavy freight in the Euphrates Gorge in the east, American locomotives along the Black Sea coast in the north and a glimpse of British-built 8F 2-8-0s.
Society member Richard Coghlan will bring us closer to home on Wednesday 22nd November when he presents Didcot, Newbury and Southampton. Richard will delve into the history of this long-lost line with a selection of black and white images from along the route.
Our meetings are at 7.45pm at The Wote Street Club in New Road in Basingstoke town centre, RG21 7NG, which has a licenced bar and usually conclude by 10.00pm.
