The group’s last monthly meeting of the year was held on 6th December when the Chairman, David Cowling, welcomed 48 members to their Christmas Party. Following coffee, tea and mince pies the members split into teams to try and solve a picture quiz comprised of celebrities, company logos, nations’ flags, and town and cities of the United Kingdom. After this we had the usual buffet and then a quiz with all of the questions related to Christmas. It was then time for the raffle which included prizes donated by Tesco and Storck, for which we were very grateful, along with those given by members. This meant that everyone was able to leave with at least one of the prizes.
The answers to the quiz were then given with each member of the winning team receiving a gift and the team with the lowest number receiving a booby prize. All that remained then was for the committee to thank everyone for coming and to wish them all a Happy Christmas and Peaceful and Healthy New Year. They were also reminded that will be no meeting in January. This means that the first meeting of 2024 will be on 7th February when the speaker will be Fred Swift with a talk about beekeeping. The first trip of the year will be to Arundel Castle on Thursday 18th April followed on Thursday 23rd May with a visit to Savill Gardens.
The group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at Brookvale Village Hall from 10am to 12 noon and all retired Civil Servants, their relatives and friends are welcome. Further details about the group and information about our trips can be obtained by contacting – csrfbasingstoke@gmail.com.
