There were 55 members at the Civil Service Retirement Fellowship meeting held on 2nd February who were welcomed by the Chairman, David Cowling. The Secretary, Tony Brazier, then gave details of the forthcoming trips planned for this year and reminded everyone of the AGM to be held at the next meeting in March to be followed by lunch at the Conservative Club. He also asked if anyone would like to put their names forward to be on the committee as we were still 2 members short. Our Welfare Officer, Christine Broadbent, then went on to give an update on those members who were not well and those who were recovering.

Amateur Dramatics

Am Dram StageThe speaker this month was Mike Brooks who spoke about some of the highlights of his 32 years in Amateur Dramatics. He recounted some of the most outstanding performances and some that had not gone according to plan. He followed on by giving a rendition of one of Alan Bennet’s “Talking Heads” and then, accompanied by his colleague Isobel, acted out some very amusing sketches including the Two Ronnies and one of his own creation which envisaged a world where Artificial Intelligence ruled the roost. He finished his entertaining talk with a soliloquy from Rowan Atkinson on the “Certainties of Uncertainties”.

Our AGM

The next meeting is the AGM on 2nd March when we are also having a presentation from Co-operative Insurance Services. The next outing is an exclusive guided tour of Dorney Court on Wednesday 23rd March followed on Friday 1st April by A Day at Newbury Races and then on Thursday 28th April Afternoon Tea at BCOT. Full details of the group’s activities can be obtained by contacting the secretary at – csrfbasingstoke@gmail.com.

The group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at Brookvale Village Hall from 10am to 12 noon and all retired Civil Servants, their relatives and friends are welcome.
