Financial support to heat homes expanded to more residents

Residents of Basingstoke and Deane without a direct relationship with a domestic electricity supplier can now access £400 to support household bills, through government support delivered by the council.

This will benefit residents that live in care facilities or sheltered accommodation that are partly or fully self-funded, residents of park homes, houseboats or caravans and tenants that pay their landlord for energy through a commercial supply.

A further £200 is available for those using fuels like biomass or heating oil to heat their homes. Most households eligible for this additional payment will receive it automatically, but if necessary households can apply online.

Cabinet Member for Finance and Property Cllr John Izett said “Residents across the borough have already had extra government support with energy bills this winter. But other residents who don’t have the usual types of energy supplies because they live in care homes, park homes or caravans will be helped by these new schemes, meaning even more support across the borough.”

Eligible households will need to complete a short online form on the GOV.UK webpage. This can be found by searching “Apply for energy bill support if you do not get it automatically” into the search bar on GOV.UK or an internet search engine. However, if residents do not have online access there is a contact centre available by telephone on 0808 175 3287 who will guide them through the process.
