What is Rotary?
Basingstoke Deane Rotary Club has been serving our local community since 1985 and in that time has raised over £700,000 which has been mainly donated to local good causes and a few carefully chosen international charities. Of even greater value may be the many volunteer hours that are given to make our community a better place.
Rotary is an international organisation that started in Chicago in 1905, by four friends who wanted to meet regularly for friendship & to further their businesses by what we would now call networking.
Today we have over 1.2 million Rotarians in 200 countries. Since it was founded Rotary has expanded to 33,000 active Rotary clubs in over 200 countries. The members of our autonomous clubs are called Rotarians, and they form a global network of business and ordinary people, all volunteering their time and talents to serve their communities and the world.
Have You Made a New Year’s Resolution?
Volunteering is good for your Mental Health
Some of us make resolutions with the best of intentions but how many are still being followed come February? Volunteering and giving your time is something that costs very little and can bring unexpected rewards to the giver. All charities need volunteers and it doesn’t need to be a huge commitment, just help for just one event or possibly for only a few hours. Lots of charities need people who donate cakes or help with teas or may be setting up gazebos or a bit of DIY. It’s not all bucket collecting! Giving your time may also be chatting to an elderly person; you may be the only person they speak to all day. May be you can help a charity; If you want to meet new people volunteering is a great way of doing it; rewarding and great fun.
Find out about volunteering today, it can add a new dimension to your life. Try it & see!
Basingstoke Deane Rotary is a charity & welcomes volunteers. We help a lot of local charities with their fundraising events. We help St Michael’s Hospice with, car parking, marshalling routes and providing refreshments for some of their walking events and for The Big Wheel we run water stations. We help other charities such as The Disability Forum for their Scarecrow Walk and the Camrose Centre for Homeless and Vulnerably Housed we cooked and served Christmas lunch for their clients and volunteers in December. We meet lovely people and get a lot of enjoyable fun from what we do.

Basingstoke Deane Rotary is a group of 35 men & women from a wide variety of backgrounds. All live locally in the borough but some commute to work outside Basingstoke.
