Kate and Fi
We are Kate and Fi, local residents of Old Basing and Chineham, rather unbelievably we have both been picked to take part in a celebrity trek in aid of the breast cancer charity CoppaFeel! in the Scottish highlands this September. Celebrity patron and ‘I’m a celeb’ winner Giovanna Fletcher and her good friend and ‘The Voice’ presenter Emma Willis will be leading us on a gruelling 100km trek in the Scottish highlands near Glen Lyon. The trek will take on some of the highest peaks and we will be walking for 8-10hrs a day battling the midges by day and camping at night.
Fi has recently bravely battled breast cancer, getting the diagnosis during the pandemic and facing the prospect of procedures on her own. Despite only recently finishing treatment, she was inspired to take on this challenge to raise vital funds for this brilliant charity.
I have been affected by cancer through family and friends and wanted to take part in a fundraising challenge as well as raising awareness and funds for this brilliant charity.
We both have children at the village schools and our sons both play for Old Basing cricket club. Despite not knowing each other we have been introduced by mutual friends once we realised we were on the same trek and we are so glad to have found each other to share the experience as well as tackle the kit list and the training!
CoppaFeel!’s Mission
CoppaFeel!’s mission is to raise awareness of breast cancer in both men and women and particularly in young adults by encouraging us all to regularly self-check. Understanding what is normal for you can lead to early detection which could quite literally be lifesaving. It is important to check all the way up to your collarbone as well as under the armpits, we need to empower people to seek advice from a doctor should anything be unusual for you.
