I was walking on the Millfield this afternoon in the snow and at the far end in the balancing pond area there were two black and white birds near the stream which took to the air as I approached. Their underwing was white and the wings were stubby rather than pointed with distinct black ends. I am pretty sure they were lapwings. They did also make a few lapwing type calls too and flew like lapwings. Unfortunately I didn’t have a camera with me to be sure of the identification. I guess the hard weather has brought them down there.

I saw and heard them too they looked and sounded like lapwings to me. Looked fabulous against the snow and black trees.
