300 Groups
The National Women’s Register (NWR) is not that well known, but there are over 300 Groups in the UK with local meetings, activities and events. There is no top-heavy hierarchy, so each Group runs according to what suits the local members.
Chineham and Old Basing NWR hold their meetings at 2pm on the first Monday of the month. Our style is informal and relaxed. We have about 20 members but usually only half that at each meeting, so we take turns to host meetings at home. We have a monthly lunch trying out local venues on different days. Some meet at 8pm on 4th Thursday to discuss a chosen book.
Zoom meetings
Our National Office also arranges talks (usually in the evening) via Zoom on a wide range of subjects which is included in the annual £32 membership fee. You could join an online group if you are unable to find a group which meets at a time and day convenient to you.
Meetings update
Our September meeting was an evening meeting with a delicious buffet mostly cooked by our capable local organiser, with nine of us contributing food and wine. In October we researched and discussed Underwear. November was another evening meeting when we participate in the annual NWR National Telephone Quiz. It is always a hilarious evening as we brain-storm to answer cryptic clues. December is another food and wine meeting to enjoy good company and laughter at our annual Christmas lunch held in the Old Basing cricket pavilion.
New Members are very welcome and can attend up to 3 events (meetings or lunches) before committing to the £32 annual subscription. For more information do look at the website: nwr.org.uk or for an informal chat contact: Dusty Brough 01256 357276, dmbc861@gmail.com
