The President of the Probus Club of Basingstoke, Alex Marianos, has reviewed the first half of his year of office and looks forward to 2023.
Alex explained, “Probus is the social club for retired professional and business managers that have regular meetings with guest speakers on a variety of subjects. Although the Basingstoke Probus Club is for men and has been running for over forty-four years, there is a Ladies’ Probus Club in the town that has its thirtieth anniversary in 2023.”
“We have two monthly meetings, firstly, with our speakers and lunch at the Test Valley Golf Club near Overton, with the second a pub style social lunch on the east side of Basingstoke, involving our wives and partners. More specific inclusive occasions are the Ladies Spring Lunch, a Summer Pub Lunch as well as our Christmas lunch.”
“We enjoyed social outings with our ladies to Brooklands Museum, a guided tour of Salisbury Cathedral including Ted Heath’s house and to the Montague Motor Museum at Beaulieu. Planning for early 2023 we shall visit Blenheim Palace and have afternoon tea at Cliveden. We have five speakers booked for our lunch meetings.”
The Probus Club provides for social interchange with like-minded retired men, something akin to how ladies enjoy their social clubs like the Ladies’ Probus or W.I. Typical of many organisations post Covid, the Probus Club of Basingstoke is keen to see some new members.
As Alex concluded, “Anyone with supervisory experience in their working lives will be made welcome. The cost of membership is not onerous with the annual subscription at only £25 with the lunch meetings costing only £15.”
