On the ornithological front, we have had Mr and Mrs Blackcap around all winter, and a week or so ago there were 2 male Blackcaps in the garden. However, a couple of days ago we had a rather (un)welcome visitor, what looks to me like a large juv. female Sparrowhawk. I think she lunched on Mrs. Blackcap. I attach a few photos of the culprit, plus a photo of the feathers of the victim – I shall be interested to hear what you think about the identity of the victim.
We had a brief visit from a female Siskin (photo attached), in the second lot of bad weather, but otherwise not much of interest. We seem to have done quite well for Greenfinches, however, as they have been regular visitors.
