The Basingstoke group meets on the first Wednesday of each month at Brookvale Village Hall from 10 am to 12 when we have a speaker, refreshments, book stall and raffle at which all retired Civil Servants, their partners and friends, are welcome.
The next meeting is on Wednesday 1st August when the speaker will be Mel Rees on “My Family and other Meerkats”.
We also arrange outings and the next one we are taking bookings for is on Tuesday 11th September to Polesden Lacey, a National Trust property which was the weekend party house of Edwardian socialite Maggie Greville and was designed to impress and entertain. From the stunning décor in the gold Saloon to state-of-the-art conveniences, such as Maggie’s personal lift, no expense was spared when Ritz architects Mewès and Davies renovated the house ready for Maggie’s first house party in 1909. There are also the gardens which have something to offer in every season. From exceptional views over Ranmore Common from the South Lawn, to peace and quiet in the old kitchen garden and upper sunk garden, to stunning colour and scent around the rose garden and double herbaceous borders, there is always something beautiful to enjoy.
