Carnival – Save the Date – Saturday 15th June 2024.
Building on last year’s successful event, this year’s Carnival committee will bring the community together with a lively event delivering traditional games, fun activities, exhibitions/displays and interactive sports workshops along with a range of local food and beverage-based offerings, craft stalls and arena displays.
The Olympics
Games, sport and outdoor recreation are at the forefront of this year’s Carnival and the goal is to introduce attendees to new activities and help residents meet many of the groups that are available to you in the Parish. In a sporting quadrennial year, the theme for the 2024 carnival will be The Olympics.
Procession
As always the Carnival will kick off with a Procession which will leave at 12:00. Following last year’s successful format, the route will start at the Royal British Legion on Crown Lane, and move off towards to The Street where we will turn right and proceed through the village to the recreation ground. There will be a road closure on both roads for the duration of the procession.
The Procession entries will be judged in the following categories:
-
-
- Under 5
- Under 7 (incl. Rainbow’s and Beavers)
- Under 11 (incl. Cubs and Brownies)
- Mixed Ages
- Seniors.
-
The Viner cup will be presented to the best-in-show entry. If you are interested in taking part in the procession, please email Hannah for more details and an entry form at: oldbasingcarnival@gmail.com
The Carnival takes a lot of organising and, as always, we need lots of helpers on the day. If you can spare some time and would like to join in the fun please contact Peter at: oldbasingcarnival@gmail.com or reach out through our Facebook page #Old Basing & Lychpit Carnival.
Scarecrow Festival
The Scarecrow Festival hosted by the Old Basing & Lychpit Carnival Committee, takes place from June 1st until the Carnival on June 15th. Following the success in recent years, the festival has no theme and no competition. It’s just for fun and the enjoyment of the community.
Looking for something to do over a weekend, why not get creative and make a Scarecrow! For those struggling for ideas, you may like to use the Carnival procession theme of ‘The Olympics’ as inspiration.
A checklist and map will be available on the Old Basing & Lychpit Carnival Facebook page as soon as we hear of the Scarecrows locations. It’s never to late to display your Scarecrow, we will continue to share updated versions of the checklist and map throughout the festival.
Once your Scarecrow is on display, please lets us know the name of your Scarecrow entry, the road it is on display in and sends us a photo of the Scarecrow that you don’t mind being shared on social media. Scarecrow entries can be submitted to the Carnival Committee via the Old Basing & Lychpit Carnival Facebook page or email oldbasingcarnival@gmail.com.
We hope you enjoy the Scarecrow Festival and look forward to seeing your creations decorating Old Basing & Lychpit. We also look forward to meeting you all at The Old Basing & Lychpit Carnival 2024
