Despite the cold weather approximately 50 people gathered for a short ceremony on Sunday 20 May 2012 to re-dedicate the well head in Milkingpen Lane in celebration of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Two buglers from the Royal British Legion played a fanfare and there was even an “unscripted” fly past by a Chinook Helicopter en-route to the Royal British Legion Diamond Jubilee Fun Day.  The event was further marked by a short talk by Mr Alan Turton on the past importance and history of the well, whilst those present enjoyed a celebratory drink generously provided by the Bolton Arms Pub.  The well head, which was constructed and donated to the parish by Oakwrights of Hereford is based on the design of the original well head as shown in the historical book on Old Basing written by local author, Ann Pitcher.
