Free help to save hundreds of pounds on energy bills<\/h1>\n

As the energy price cap goes up by 10% today (1 October 2024), people living in Basingstoke and Deane are being reminded there is free help to save money on their bills and keep their homes warm this winter.<\/span><\/p>\n

Every household in the borough could potentially save hundreds of pounds each year on their energy bills by booking themselves in with Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council for a free energy-saving home assessment.<\/span><\/p>\n

Process<\/h2>\n

The no-strings-attached assessments aim to help people to understand what they can do to keep their homes warm and comfortable in the colder months while also spending less on their energy bills at the same time.<\/span><\/p>\n

The in-person surveys are entirely free and, once they are complete, the results are used to create tailored plans for how residents can cut down on how much energy it takes to heat and power their homes.<\/span><\/p>\n

This includes giving people quick, free and easy top tips as well as recommending more impactful energy-saving home improvements, like solar panels and insulation. The reports also include information about grants that could partly or fully pay for these types of home improvements, depending on people's individual circumstances.<\/span><\/p>\n

Help to Keep Warm and Save Energy<\/h2>\n

The Cabinet Member responsible for the energy-saving help Cllr Chris Tomblin said: \"Whether you live in the countryside or in a town, in a rented flat or in a house you own, in a property heated by gas or by oil, or in another type of home entirely, it doesn't matter. If you live in Basingstoke and Deane, we can help you to save money on your energy bills and keep your home warm too\".
\"And with heating and powering homes making up a good part of our carbon footprints, our energy-saving initiatives can also help you to shrink your emissions to tackle climate change as well.<\/em>\"<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n

This support is partly funded by the council's successful bid for \u00a3197,000 from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero's Local Energy Advice Demonstrator programme. This government initiative aims to provide specialist in-person energy-saving advice to residents across England.<\/span><\/p>\n
