Basingstoke and District Railway Society – March 2025

Basingstoke & District Railway Society

Upcoming Events

This month we will take a close look at a couple of current activities of interest to the steam railway enthusiast. On Wednesday 12th March, Chris Hardy of the A1 Steam Locomotive Trust will bring us up-to-date with Prince of Wales – brand new steam for the 21st century. In Darlington, the Trust is constructing a new steam locomotive, based on Sir Nigel Gresley’s massive P2 class 2-8-2 of the 1930s, adapted for use on the modern railway.

Working steam will be on show on Wednesday 26th March when Stephen Bigley will present Steam Photo Charters. Stephen will tell us what goes into organising the operation of a chartered train on Britain’s heritage railways to enable photographers to picture the train in a variety of locations.

Our meetings are at 7.45pm at The Wote Street Club in New Road in Basingstoke town centre, RG21 7NG, which has a licenced bar and usually conclude by 10.00pm. Do join us for these meeting, either by becoming a Society member or as a visitor (at a cost of just £5). Membership details are on our website at www.bdrs70d.com or call the Secretary on 07837 320790.
