Upcoming Events

For many years, the diesel multiple unit – a train of passenger coaches with integral diesel engines – has been a familiar part of the railway scene. But did you know that the story of the ‘dmu’ goes back to 1927? On Wednesday 10 September, Colin Boocock will reveal all in “A History of DMUs“, looking at all the diesel railcars and multiple units that have operated on the main line railways in the British Isles. Be surprised at the sheer variety and complexity of dmu history in a fascinating presentation.

On Wednesday 24 September we will take a look at a current aspect of the operational railway when Mark Miller will present “The Hampshire Community Rail Partnership“. Mark will explore how local communities across Hampshire are engaged through the Partnership in a variety of schemes to improve rail transport across the county.

Our meetings are at 7.45pm at The Wote Street Club in New Road in Basingstoke town centre, RG21 7NG, which has a licenced bar and usually conclude by 10.00pm.
