Thank You for supporting our

Royal Marines Concert at the Anvil

Royal Marines TrumpetersThe afternoon of Sunday 26th of January saw us hosting the The Band of His Majesty’s Royal Marines for our 15th annual concert and they were on great form, with an excellent and varied programme that particularly showcased solos by their very talented band members. Recognising the 80th anniversary of VE day this year we began with ‘Let Freedom Ring’.  We had the music from the 1927 film Metropolis and were then shaken up by The Prodigy Medely. The traditional finale of Pomp and Circumstance followed by an amazing Top Gun encore. A truly varied programme.

We hosted the Basingstoke Army Cadet Force Corps of Drums who had the exciting opportunity of being invited to watch the rehearsal and show and also to join in a master class of Drum lead by the RM Corps of Drums. A great opportunity for the cadets. We were also joined by the wonderful Chelsea Pensioners who were able to meet the audience after the show.

Supporting Local Charities

People ask us ‘What does Rotary do?’  … We’re about helping and supporting communities. As Rotarian’s, we do some fantastic work each year, whilst having fun and raising money at events like the concert at The Anvil and The Festival of Transport, that enable  us to donate to more than 20 local charities, such as: Mencap Basingstoke, Young Carers, and the Camrose Centre for homeless people, and a few international causes such as Christmas Shoeboxes, Shelterboxes and the End Polio campaign.

We also have fun helping charities ‘hands on’ at their own fundraising events. This may often involve marshalling and car parking. We regularly support St Michael’s Hospice with all their fundraising events including providing refreshments for Moonlight Walk

2025 Focus for Fundraising

We launched this years fundraising focus at the Anvil Concert. We are working with Hampshire Hospitals Charity with a £40,000 target to fund Thoracoscopy equipment which falls outside NHS funding. This will avoid the need for patients to travel to other hospitals for many lung and respiratory related procedures such as biopsies. This will also be the focus of our Festival of Transport fundraising
