Shelterbox

ShelterBox is an international  disaster relief charity established in 2000 by the Rotary Club of Helston, in Cornwall, that provides emergency shelter and other aid items to families around the world who have lost their homes to disaster or conflict.

It is now a business in Its own right and ShelterBox is the chosen route through which the 32,000 Rotary Clubs, including ours, operating in over 200 countries around the world can provide rapid and direct emergency help to families in desperate need after disasters.

Rotary Shelterbox exampleTypical ShelterBox aid items include: tents as temporary shelter or shelter kits to allow people to build or rebuild durable shelters. ShelterBox also may include aid items such as mosquito nets, water filters, water carriers, solar lights, cooking sets, blankets and mats and even colouring books and pencils for children.

The aid provided by ShelterBox is tailored to the nature of each individual disaster and location and therefore it is not always the same. ShelterBox Response Teams distribute aid on the ground, working closely with local organisations, local and international aid agencies and  Rotary Clubs worldwide

The sturdy green ShelterBox is an essential part of the aid package, and not just for storage. Families use it as a work bench, a wardrobe, a seat, and even a crib!

Following devastating flooding in many places in the world and the recent destruction of homes in an earthquake in Morocco, your local Rotary Club, Basingstoke Deane Rotary, has recently donated funds equivalent to 2 full ShelterBoxes so the funds are there ready to be used when a disaster or conflict occurs.
