Upcoming Basingstoke Railway Society Events
This month’s first meeting on Wednesday 10th June will see the welcome return of John Fissler to present Rhatische Bahn Revisited. In a second instalment of his tour of Swiss Railways, John will explore the extensive metre gauge RhB system. Expect to see steam, diesel and electric locomotives and beautiful scenery in the south and east of Switzerland.
A bit of modern history will be uncovered on Wednesday 24th June when Paul Ebbutt will discuss London’s Docklands Light Railway. Paul was a civil engineer with London Transport and Transport for London for 40 years. He will bring his extensive experience to provide an overview of the planning, construction and operation of the original DLR from Tower Gateway to the Isle of Dogs and Stratford in the 1980s and will include some personal reflections on his role and the impact of politics on the project.
Our meetings are at 7.45pm at The Wote Street Club in New Road in Basingstoke town centre, RG21 7NG, which has a licenced bar and usually conclude by 10.00pm. Do join us for these meeting, either by becoming a Society member or as a visitor (at a cost of just £5). Membership details are on our website at www.bdrs70d.com or call the Secretary on 07837 320790.
