Earlier this month we made a big announcement about the future of the Scout Group!
Old Basing Roundhead Scouts will be our 2nd Scout Troop for 10½–14-year-olds from Old Basing, Lychpit & beyond opening January 2026 on Tuesday nights!
Joining our established Cavalier Scouts (our Wednesday Troop), Roundhead Scouts will allow us to provide more young people with fantastic opportunities and activities while matching the growing needs of our community. Our Roundhead Scouts already have several exciting opportunities planned for their opening year including BEASTLY26 and Old Basing Group Camp.
To help with the launch of this new Troop we are looking for new volunteers to join the fun and make a difference. Roundhead Scouts will work closely with the Cavalier Scout team to deliver the best programme and experiences for all our Scouts. You’ll also be joining a friendly team of volunteers and a community keen to support Scouts at Old Basing!
Volunteering with Old Basing Scouts is completely flexible and incredibly rewarding. You can give as much or as little time as you like — whether that’s helping occasionally, taking on a regular role, or sharing a particular skill. However you choose to help, you’ll be making a real difference to young people’s lives, gaining new skills, meeting great people, and having plenty of fun along the way! We also have roles to volunteer with all of our younger sections as well (Squirrels, Beavers and Cubs) so please let us know if you’re interested.
That wasn’t the only announcement we made earlier this month! After a very successful first year we’re bringing back our Christmas Light Hike! We’re inviting everyone in the community to join in the festive fun by decorating your homes with Christmas lights. Young People from several of our sections will then be heading into Old Basing, Lychpit and some other surrounding areas to find the best lights around on the 8th & 9th December. And here’s a little incentive: the Young People will be dropping off small treats through the doors of some of the most festive homes we spot during our hike! We’d love to see as many people taking part as possible and lighting up our community ready for the Christmas Season!
We are always looking for new people to join in the fun – young and old! If you’re interested or want more information, then please contact us by email group@oldbasingscouts.org.uk. You can also find us on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn at ‘Old Basing Scout Group’ where we post regular updates on what we get up to.
