Could You Open Your Home to a Young Person in Old Basing or Lychpit?
In every parish, there are moments when people quietly step in for one another — offering time, space, or practical support when it’s needed most. Here in Old Basing and Lychpit, that sense of looking out for others has long been part of everyday life.
Alongside this, there are young people locally who are facing important and often challenging transitions. Some are leaving care. Others are navigating family breakdown or instability. What many need at this moment is something simple but vital: a safe home and a trusted adult.
Step by Step, a local charity working across the Basingstoke area, supports young people through these transitions by helping individuals and families open their homes.
There are two main ways local people get involved. Supported Lodgings supports young people aged 16–21, offering a spare room, stability and encouragement as they take steps towards independence. Fostering provides care for children and young people up to the age of 18, offering the consistency and security of a family home when it’s most needed.
Both roles are fully supported by Step by Step, with training, professional guidance and financial allowances. People are carefully matched, and no one is expected to do this alone.
As the year gets underway, Step by Step would welcome conversations with anyone in Old Basing or Lychpit who may be curious about opening their home, whether now or in the future.
