… and put the importance of St. Michael’s Hospice in the spotlight

St. Michael’s Hospice provides a vital service to our community, supporting people across North Hampshire who have a life-limiting illness, are facing the end-of-life or experiencing bereavement. Take part in this year’s Moonlight Walk on Saturday 27 September at Festival Place, Basingstoke and help the Hospice continue to be there for families across North Hampshire when they need it most.

Last year, over 700 people joined the Moonlight Walk in a record-breaking show of support for the Hospice – lets beat it this year! Gather your friends, family and colleagues, and don your brightest outfit, sprinkle on some glitter, and grab your glow-in-the-dark accessories for a dazzling night to remember.

Take on the 10k route at your own pace to raise vital funds and awareness for St. Michael’s Hospice. Be part of the fun-filled night with refreshments, face painting, music, and an energetic team warm-up before setting off at 9pm to light up the town.

St. Michael’s Hospice charity shops across North Hampshire are selling glittery, brightly coloured and fancy dress outfits for walkers to purchase for the event. Everyone is encouraged to dress in glitter and glow in the dark items, but some people dress in fancy dress or take the challenge to the next level. Last year, St. Michael’s Furniture Store Manager, Chris, took on the challenge carrying a full sized bed along the 10K route to generate extra sponsorship for the Hospice!

“As the manager of our local furniture store, I’ve had the privilege of seeing first-hand just how hard everyone continues to raise funds for this incredible hospice over the years. The dedication and commitment to supporting St. Michael’s has truly inspired me, and I wanted to do my part to help. So, to give back, I decided to challenge myself in a unique way – by walking the Moonlight Walk route with my colleagues, friends and family while carrying a piece of furniture.” – Chris, St. Michael’s Hospice Furniture Store Manager.

The Hospice’s services are free of charge, but with only 22% NHS funding, St. Michael’s Hospice relies on the generosity of the community to raise the additional £14,500 per day needed to continue their care. As demand for their services increases, so do the costs. By taking part in St. Michael’s Moonlight Walk or other events, you can help to ensure that patients and their families can receive hospice care when they need it most, whether at home, in the Living Well Centre or in the Hospice.
