Basingstoke and District Railway Society – October 2026

Basingstoke & District Railway Society

Upcoming Basingstoke Railway Society Events

Our meeting on Wednesday 14th October will take an absorbing look at some modern UK history when railway historian Dr Richard Marks will present The Good, the Bad and the Infamous Sandwich – the Story of British Rail in the 1970s. A decade of contradictions and extremes and a railway caught between ambition and austerity surely has some lessons for the present day.

On Wednesday 28th October, there will be two parts to John Godfrey’s presentation. Firstly, European Roundabout and then A Trip to the Dentist. The first will feature images of trains and trams around Europe, 2000 to 2025. We will have wait to see what the second part is about, but we are assured that trains, trams and trolleybuses will feature!

Our meetings are at 7.45pm at The Wote Street Club in New Road in Basingstoke town centre, RG21 7NG, which has a licenced bar and usually conclude by 10.00pm. Do join us for these meeting, either by becoming a Society member or as a visitor (at a cost of just £5). Membership details are on our website at www.bdrs70d.com or call the Secretary on 07837 320790.
