Upcoming Basingstoke Railway Society Events

On Wednesday 13th May Martin Orford will visit to talk about “The History and Restoration of BR Standard 4 Tank No.80150”. One of the last few locomotives built at Brighton Works, No.80150 worked mainly in the south of England before languishing for many years in Messrs Woodhams scrapyard in Barry and on a siding at Alresford. Martin will describe its working life and go on to examine progress on the restoration of the unloved and almost forgotten locomotive on the Watercress Line.

We will go overseas on Wednesday 27th May when Neil Kearns will present “Western Canada 1981 and 2016”. His presentation will be an enthusiast’s view of the railways of western Canada benefitting from some ‘inside knowledge’ of operations there. As well as scenery, big diesels and long freights there will be some steam and a look at trams and trolleybuses in Vancouver.

Our meetings are at 7.45pm at The Wote Street Club in New Road in Basingstoke town centre, RG21 7NG, which has a licenced bar and usually conclude by 10.00pm. Do join us for these meeting, either by becoming a Society member or as a visitor (at a cost of just £5). Membership details are on our website at www.bdrs70d.com or call the Secretary on 07837 320790.
